A practical setup

For data minimisation, identify who controls the permission, what data or capability is involved, and what can change after an iOS update. Write the trigger, action, exception, and review date in one sentence before configuring it.

Worked example

Verify the current source, enable only the permission needed for one small test, and confirm the resulting behavior on your own iPhone. Leave a step, saved-place, or unrestricted option available whenever the context requires it.

Review each input separately: Screen Time supports the selected-app boundary, Apple Health can supply authorized steps, and camera permission supports on-device repetition counting. Decline an optional route when its input is not wanted and use another supported way in. Data minimisation means explaining and limiting each permission; it does not mean claiming that every kind of device or analytics data stays local.

How to measure the experiment

Recheck the documented behavior after a major iOS change or whenever the permission state no longer matches the expected result. Record whether the setup appeared at the right moment and whether its fallback was genuinely usable.

Before you switch it on

A technical reference is ready to use when scope, permission owner, data boundary, and verification source are explicit.
