A practical setup

For Safari, decide which use is distracting, which use is intentional, and whether another app or browser route performs the same task. Test the setup once while you can still verify every selection and permission.

Worked example

Select one destination, set a 10-minute daily limit, then test locking and release while every permission and exception is still visible. Save the outcome in a private note so the next review uses evidence rather than memory.

Selecting Safari is broad because the whole browser is affected, not individual websites. Before including it, list banking, school, work, care, authentication, and travel tasks that rely on Safari, and verify a separate urgent-information route. A safer first test is often one non-essential app; select the browser only when its full scope is understood and one short shield-and-release check succeeds.

How to measure the experiment

For 7 days, record 3 checks covering shield reliability, necessary access, planned visits, and automatic openings. Measure the friction around essential tasks separately from friction around distraction.

Before you switch it on

A blocking playbook is useful only when selection, recovery, and essential access have been tested.

• ✓Inventory work, care, banking, travel, and authentication needs.
• ✓Check app and browser routes that reach the same destination.
• ✓Choose a way in that fits the place and time: a camera-counted exercise, the step target, or a place you name.
• ✓Run one short shield-and-unshield test before relying on it.

When to adjust the rule

Fix the selection before raising the movement target; a broader lock is not automatically a better boundary. If the same exception keeps appearing, redesign the selection instead of negotiating with it each time.
